This site has the remains of a chambered cairn with upright slabs which are arranged in a circle about 15m (50ft) across. The date of the monument is thought to be 3000 to 500 BC, which means it was being used form the Neolithic period right through to the Iron Age. With Clach an Truiseal, Loch an Duin and Clach Stei Lin all within close proximity it suggests a special significance for prehistoric people in the area.
However, the site has been cause of much debate amongst experts as the cairn can also be interpreted as a domestic dwelling within the enclosure. When it was discovered it drew comparisons with similar Neolithic settlements in Shetland and the site may well illustrate a prehistoric attempt to exploit the landscape to provide a small community with the basic means to survive. The site has not been thoroughly excavated so it's exact use will remain a topic of much discussion.
The site is under the gaurdianship of Historic Scotland.
